Give employees incentive
It isn’t unheard of to give employees a reward for doing good work, whether it be for working better on an individual level or working harder than the other employees. As a project manager, your job is to make sure all players working hard to make the job come together are collaborating well, and to do this, you may need an incentive to get them to work better as a team. After all, a company is only as strong as its weakest link. If your team works together to bring each other up, the overall product will be better and your employees will provide better work in the future, both as a team and as individuals.
Check in regularly
It may seem obvious, but keeping your team on track with regular meetings can never hurt productivity. Your employees will work the most efficiently if they have a guideline to follow and a timeline to work within. Most importantly, plan ahead to provide thoughtful and productive feedback during these sessions to help keep the focus on what’s important. An individualized approach is encouraged, understanding that in order to improve retention and overall employee satisfaction, a leader must adapt to the fact that each individual works differently but has something unique to offer the group that should be fostered. Checking in as a group and then one-on-one on a regular basis helps make sure the team stays on the same page.
Build Trust
Building a good relationship with your team is the most important step in any leadership role. Show your workers that you are not only invested in the success of the project but in their personal success as well. Make yourself available and easy to talk to, and your team will never struggle to reach out to you for assistance.
Encourage Communication
Not only is it important for you to openly communicate with your team, but you should encourage constant communication between each individual as well. Not only does this create a bond between co-workers, but it can help when collaborating on ideas if everyone is comfortable sharing ideas in a group. Use technology to help keep discussion organized, something that will save time (and money!) in the long run.
Keep Track of Progress
It is your job to keep the team on task, so staying organized is a must for all project managers. Pay attention to the amount of work put in versus what is put out, and track the trends in performance. Does your team do better with loose deadlines? Strict guidelines? Under the gun, or with plenty of time to get the project done? Learn how your team works so you can better handle each project to come. The same way you can use energy tracking software to see how energy efficient your company is, you can utilize technology to keep track of employee productivity.
