Is Technology a Destructor or a Creator?
The modern world would be better without all technological advancements that we are observing now. Technology causes pollution, destroys our habitat and the habitat of other animals and creates the illusion of security and well-being. This is one opinion about technology.
Another opinion is completely different though. Technology is something that helps people to survive in the adverse conditions and create safety for a human. Technology helped people to get to a completely new level of development, a level that is higher than the one of all other living creatures – case study writing help provides more information about it.
So, what is technology? Is it good or bad? Does it bring advancement and improvement or just destruction and deterioration? How should we perceive all those technological advancements that we have now? Are they good or bad?
Technology Is Neutral, People Are Those Who Make It Good or Bad
Maybe you have read a wonderful science fiction story, which describes one family. They live the life of many modern families: they work, learn, study, go to war. The only strange thing is the zoo that the youngest son has and constantly talks about those who have destroyed and contaminated everything. And soon, those will come and eat even the father, the head of the family and, supposedly, the owner of mysterious “those”.
Later the reader gets to know that “those” are the machines. People exhausted all resources, but some families managed to survive by creating an artificial environment for themselves – with an artificial glass sky, artificial sun, artificial air, rain, and all the rest.
They destroyed their habitat with the help of all technological advancements they had. Machines aren’t alive, they just do what people want from them. But people don’t understand the severity of their condition even at that stage. They are accusing machines, but not themselves.
We Can Apply Technology for Advancement
Technology is something without which some aspects of people’s lives cannot be imagined. Thanks to technology we live in comfort. Technology protects us from some diseases and allows curing other diseases. Technology makes distances shorter and people closer.
How can you imagine without technology such things as:
- Medicine. Basically, all medicine is about technology. Without technology, such field would simply disappear. People will have to rely again on herbs and own immune system to get rid of medical conditions. Many deadly illnesses will come back without vaccination, even more diseases will develop. Without medicine, the humankind can disappear from the Earth.
- Education. That’s simple. To teach somebody, you have at least to write or draw to explain things. Well, if you draw with a stone on the sand, then, you can teach without technology. But if you use at least a pen and a sheet of paper… well, they don’t grow on trees, do they?
- Travel. Can you walk up to the South Pole? You may insist that even walking from one nearby village to another one is a trip. But you understand what is traveling in the wide sense, don’t you? Modern transportation means are all products of the technological development. Even old-fashioned transportation means are here thanks to technological development.
- Entertainment. To start with, even to think about entertainment, you need to have some free time. Free time appears when you optimize your activities that are needed to survive. Such optimization took place only with technology development. Moreover, if you take modern ways in which young people entertain themselves: computers, smartphones, discotheques, cinema, and so on – everywhere technology is engaged.
Conclusion
Technology usefulness or uselessness is a very contradictory question. Yes, there are many disadvantages that technological progress brings with it. Those are contamination, nature destruction, exhaustion of natural resources. Many diseases are technology-dependent, take just CFs, constant stresses, and other related diseases. But the thing is clear: nobody wants to live in a cave and hunt a bear with a stick and a stone. That’s why we need technology. The other matter is how we use it.
